About the Event
***2-Hour Creative Writing Workshop on Slang and Dialect***
If you’re free next Thursday evening (11th July), whoever you are, please feel free to RSVP and join us for our 2-hour creative writing workshop + free book + some free snacks.
Slang and dialect are how we all speak from time to time… with our friends, our families, at home, in the city.
So, why don’t we write this way, too?
From Trainspotting to Finnegans Wake, some of the greatest stories are written in slang or local dialects.
From patois to pigeon English, from Cockney to Scouse to Geordie, our world is alive with the sound of local community.
If you’re struggling to find your voice as a creative writer, join us next Thursday, 11th July, from 6:45–9pm, for this special, informal edition of A Write & a Pint.
No experience is necessary.
We’ll be showing you some excellent examples of slang and dialect in existing literature. Then we’ll be using some playful writing prompts to get you writing in your own style.
For one night, forget the Queen’s grammar, forget Oxford syntax… be free to ramble away in the unique cadence of your own voice.
You will never be pressured to read your work aloud to the group, and you are not expected to have any knowledge of any particular dialect or slang.
As William Faulkner once said: “Write what you know”.
Indeed: write what you know in the only voice you’ve ever known it: your own.
If you’d like to come to this workshop, you’ll receive:
1 x free book
1 x 2-hour workshop on slang and dialect in creative writing
1 x free snacks
1 x handout
+ the invitation to stick around for an evening drink afterwards, to celebrate everything you’ve achieved.
As always please text or WhatsApp us on 07534 981 636 if you have any questions about this event (or any other), or if you would like to be added to our WhatsApp community for updates.
Don’t be shy—we’d love to hear from you!
