About the Event
"It’s such a confidence trick, writing a novel. The main person you have to trick into confidence is yourself. This is hard to do alone". – Zadie Smith
Let's get together and learn how to write the perfect beginning.
Whether you've already written your novel/short story or you're starting something afresh, this is the perfect workshop to hone your style, tone, tempo, and general approach.
We'll be looking at everybody from Zadie Smith to John Cheever, Francois Sagan to Katherine Mansfield, Chimamanda Ngoze Adichie to Jorge Luis Borges.
We'll be looking at what agents and publishers might want from the opening chapter.
We'll be setting you up with some fun, exciting writing exercises, to make sure you get the chance to finesse your approach and leave with something new and brilliant, ready to take home and edit.
First of all though, we'll be ordering teas, coffees and brunch, before we settle in for a warm-up exercise, to get our imaginations flowing.
No experience of writing is necessary for this workshop.
No pressure to read or share your work with the group.
Just sit back, listen, learn, read, write, eat, drink, and come away full of new knowledge and expertise in the art of writing.
"The scariest moment is always just before you start". – Stephen King
