About the Event
Welcome to SCREENPLAY: A Write & a Pint’s 5-week course in writing for film.
Whoever you are - whatever level of writing you're at - please join us!
In five weeks, you’ll learn all of the basic elements of screenwriting and will be encouraged to write your own feature-length movie.
We’ll walk you through it.
Then we’ll prompt you to pitch or send your work to a producer and provide details and links for you to do so.
If you're writing a novel or a short story, screen-writing is a great discipline for you to learn, to "show not tell" or "think visually", and this could be a great opportunity to turn the world of your narrative into something much bigger.
Whether you're a seasoned professional, or a complete beginner without so much as an idea, you're more than welcome (we'll be creating some new ideas that you can use in the first session).
Join us if you want to learn about:
- How to generate an idea for a script
- How to create a compelling character
- The basic 3 act structure
- Log-lines
- Sluglines
- Premise
- Concept
- The one-pager
- Treatment
- Step outlines
- Zero draft
- First draft
- Beatsheets
- Who’s your protagonist?
- What’s at stake?
- Scene writing
- Dialogue
- Subplots
- How to format your script
- How to write a full screenplay
- Pitching your work to a producer
Your host, Sean, has trained as a screenwriter with MetFilm and Scriptwriters&Co., and has been teaching creative writing (more broadly) for 6+ years.
Together, you’ll have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas, work through some industry standard exercises, aspire to a deadline, and make sure you finish the course with a substantial piece of work, ready to submit.
