About the Event

Welcome to SCREENPLAY: A Write & a Pint’s 6-week course in writing for film.

In six weeks, you’ll learn all of the basic elements of screenwriting and how to write a movie.

We’ll walk you through it.

By the end of the course, we’ll prompt you to pitch or send your work to a producer and provide details and links to do so.

If you're writing a novel or a short story, this could be a great opportunity to turn into something bigger. If you're a complete beginner without so much as an idea yet, you're also more than welcome.

Join us if you want to learn about:

  • How to generate an idea for a script
  • How to create a compelling character
  • The basic 3 act structure
  • Log-lines
  • Premise
  • Concept
  • Treatment
  • Step outlines
  • Zero draft
  • First draft
  • Who’s your protagonist?
  • What’s at stake?
  • Scene writing
  • Dialogue
  • Subplots
  • Understanding beats
  • How to write a spec script
  • How to format your script
  • How to write a full screenplay
  • Pitching your work to a producer

Your host, Sean, is currently undergoing training as a screenwriter with MetFilm school and has been teaching creative writing (more generally) for 5+ years.

Together, you’ll have the opportunity to brainstorm ideas, work through some industry standard exercises, aspire to a deadline, and make sure you finish the course with a substantial piece of work, ready to submit.

….

Our course is only £85. Comparable courses range from approx. £200 to £5000 (since we’re not an institution and the course is online, we’re able to charge considerably less for similar course material, insight and coaching).

….

Films we’ll discuss include:

The Matrix

Little Miss Sunshine

2001: A Space Odyssey

The Tenant

The Player

Babadook

The Truman Show

+ we’ll share these screenplays with you, so you can see how they’re formatted and everything they contain.

….

No experience of screenwriting is necessary.

No pressure to read or share your work in front of the group.

Just sit back, listen, learn and write, then picture your name in lights.

Join us now for your chance to create something truly magnificent.

….

Sessions will be on Zoom (you do not need the app to attend). They will take place each Thursday, between 8pm - 9:45pm, beginning 29th October, through 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th of November.

...

In addition to everything stated here, we now have the privilege to be joined by Jermaine Blake: a producer, director and former script-reader for BBC Productions. So you will be getting double for your money.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us directly if you have any questions. Text: 07534 981 636. We’re happy to help.
